Your Bio

Photography has been a joy of mine since childhood. Developing B&W negatives in a poorly ventilated basement and burning light sensitive sheets of photo paper with the enlarger...well, we've come a long way. Now digital photography has opened much greater (and cleaner!) avenues of creativity.

Whether I'm at home in the Ozarks or on one of my semi-annual mission trips I enjoy taking photographs of nature or people or a variety of other subjects.

This website enables me to share some of these photographs with you. I hope you enjoy looking at them. If you can take the time, I would value your comments.

Beauty of Croatia : In June 2008 we enjoyed a lovely vacation along the coast of Croatia. The tranquil beauty contained gorgeous scenes amidst ancient historical landmarks. Many of the churches and other buildings were over 700 years old, and Diocletian's palace in Split was 1700 years old! This young country proclaims a great deal of exciting patriotism. We traveled in a small ship from port to port, each place having a history and flavor of its own. I took over 5000 photos. Shown here are just a few. I hope you enjoy viewing them.

Kenya 2007 : In October 2007 I visited Kenya in East Africa for a church related trip. These photos begin with friends and scenes in Nairobi, the capital. These photos include many friends we visited in and around Nairobi, including a small church. Nairobi is the largest city in East Africa, and photos include our trip there to one of the world's largest slums, Kibera. We took a night bus ride to the coastal city of Mombasa where there are photos of many places and friends we visited. There are photos of church services, day and night. Finally we flew from Mombase back to Nairobi where we took a flight home.

Nairobi National Park : On October 9, 2007 some of my new African friends and I took a day off to visit the Nairobi National Park. This wildlife sanctuary is just outside the city limits of the capital of Kenya. What a joy to live for a few hours among the wild beasts of zebras, giraffes, exotic birds and even lions! These are the photos I took that day.

Uganda 2007 : In October 2007 I visited Uganda in East Africa for a church related trip. These photos begin with friends and scenes in Kampala, the capital, and continue as we cross the equator to the city of Mbarara in west Uganda. Then we visited the UN Refugee Camp in SW Uganda where we spent some time with Congolese and Rwandan refugees. Church worship services, day and night, are photographed. Finally we return to Kampala for a flight to Nairobi, which will be in another gallery of Kenya.

England 2006 : In December 2006 Julie and I visited London for a week. We met up with our son Micah who was working there. Here are some photos of our trip without commentary. These photos include our trip to the airport, flying, sights of London (British Museum, Towers, the Towers Bridge, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, etc. etc.!) and one day visiting the city of Bath. The history was amazing, the people quite friendly. This being our first time to England, we felt a certain kidship in like culture and language. I've been all over Europe but never before England. Why did I wait so long? So much of our cultural roots are there. We had a fantastic time!

Kyrgyzstan Medical Mission Trip : Kyrgyzstan Mission TripOn April 14-26, 1999 I was the only physician going with a team of Americans on an outreach to Kyrgyzstan. This outreach included medical treatment in various remote villages, including a United Nations refugee camp on the Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan border. Over 1000 years ago they migrated from Mongolia to their present location. Ethnically they resemble the Mongolia people more than the Russian or Chinese. About 57% of Kyrgyzstan consists of the Kyrgyz people; the rest are Russian, Uzbeks, Turks, Chinese and other ethnic groups.

I traveled to some villages high in the Kyrgyzstan mountains and encountered many sick people. There were many diseases that would be so easily treated in any clinic in the US. Much anemia, goiters from hypothyroidism, children dehydrated and undernourished. These photographs may give you a feel for the lovely people we met in rural Kyrgyzstan.

Faces of India Part 1 : Photos from earlier trips to India. Many are taken by film camera.

India is a country of paradox. From the grandiose glimpses of its history to the grave desperation of the present, the country grabs your heart with a range of passions and fills your senses to overload. India is home to the obscenely rich and the obscurely poor; to the well educated (the world's largest group of scientists is in India) and the illiterate; to a polytheistic majority and to a dedicated Christian minority.

India has such diversity. No one can point to a group or city or region and say "this is India." The country is too complex. It is a modern day fusion of scores of kingdoms with over 150 different languages. These photos serve only as a glimpse.
